Many of us are confused about Khakis and Chinos. Here are the differences based on my research.

Khaki:

Technically, “khaki” is a color (light-brown drab), a fabric used primarily for military uniforms as the fabric is more tough & strong. It is made with cotton, wool, or combinations of these fibers, as well as with blends of synthetic fibers. Khaki comes from Hindustani, meaning"earth-colored", and originally referred to a sandy beige & a variety of weaves, called serge.

Serge is a type of twill fabric that has diagonal lines or ridges on both sides, made with a two-up, two-down weave. Khakis are typically considered as of more casual because of its sturdier fabric. 

For those who work in an office environment, the khaki trouser is fine& can go with either a dress shirt or polo..

Chinos:

The actual word “chino” is derived from the Spanish name for China, as the cotton twill fabric used for the trousers was sourced from CHINA 😊. Just a bit of information.  Chinos are made up of a lightweight cotton twill fabric, that makes them an excellent pick for your daily wear and off-duty looks.

Chinos are not dress pants or trousers. They're in the middle between casual and formal and should not be worn for anything above a business casual event.
